First Lady Melania Trump was rushed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington D.C. to have kidney surgery on Monday.
CNN reported that Melania’s office released a statement saying that Melania had been having issues with her kidneys for quite some time.
“This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful, and there were no complications,” the first lady’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement. “Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”
Grisham said that President Donald Trump is likely to visit his wife very soon. Melania, who just turned 48 last month, first US first lady to undergo such a serious medical procedure while in the White House since Nancy Reagan had a mastectomy in October 1987.
This comes a week after Melania revealed her “Be Best” initiative, which is a three-pronged platform with a focus on opioid addiction and families, general physical and emotional well-being of children, and kindness and safety for kids using social media.
Over the weekend, Melania opened up about her experiences being a mother.
“As a mother myself, I know what goes into raising a child,” Melania said, according to People Magazine. “It takes an incredible amount of strength, a lot of time, a generous amount of patience, and all of our love. As moms, we are so incredibly privileged to be able to bring children into this world and be a part of helping them grow into adults.”
Melania went on to talk about the “powerful bond” between mother and child.
“Because of the powerful bond between a mother and her child, when they feel emotions, so do we – whether they are happy or nervous, sad or excited, we feel those things with them,” she said. “I think it is one of the most powerful and beautiful parts of motherhood.”
Please send prayers to Melania Trump and her family as she recovers from surgery!
